What if the direct debit bounced because I didn’t have enough money in my account?
We will attempt to collect your payment again 7 days after your usual payment date, but we’d like to understand the reason this happened, so that we can discuss what options are available to you to avoid it happening again, such as changing your payment date.

What if there isn't enough money in my account for the direct debit to be collected again?

Speaking to us about your money worries won’t impact your credit file and we can explain how any of the options we may suggest will be reported, so that you can decide whether it’s right for you.

What happens if I’ve cancelled my direct debit?
We won’t be able to collect your mortgage repayments by direct debit so you should call the team on 0345 601 3344 to set up your direct debit again. We will also confirm what steps to take to avoid missing the mortgage repayment.
If you longer intend to make your repayments by direct debit, please contact us so that we can let you know what step’s you’ll need to take to make sure the right amount is paid to us on the payment due date.
Will a bounced direct debit affect my credit file?
If your payment is received within 7 days of the missed payment it will not impact your credit file. If the amount remains outstanding after this time, it will display as a payment shortfall which will be reported on your credit file. In this instance, we will get in touch to find out your circumstances and ask you to make the payment. Until either the amount is repaid, or we agree an arrangement for you to repay the amount owed, it will continue to be reported on your credit file.
